[MEMORY LOG] Memory #2
Happy childhood stuff at Kul Elna.
From the Green Knight and Narcissus's loser game.
Form: bite-sized fruit tarts.

This is basically just a bunch of random young childhood memories! Canon doesn't tell us a lot about Kul Elna, since we only see it during and post-destruction, so this is as good of a place as any to C&P my headcanon on it.
The manga tells us very little about Kul Elna. It's referred to as a village of thieves. From the visuals, it seems to be built among rocky cliffs rather than close to the Nile, where things would be more fertile. It appears to be close enough to the capitol (which would presumably be Waset/Thebes given the time period) that it can be reached within a day or so. And that's... about all we know! However, it's enough to make some assumptions off.
Kul Elna's location would put it close to or within the Theban Necropolis, meaning that in all likelihood, it at least started out as a government-planned village to house the craftsmen that worked on the tombs and their families. Of course, those villages were usually fairly well-off and populous, which Kul Elna doesn't seem to be. There's a pretty simple reason for that, though -- the time of the slaughter, the country had been in chaos for some time, hence the need for the creation of the Millennium Items as a last-ditch effort to restore order. I imagine that the normal supplies and aid from the capitol would have more or less stopped during this time, and food stores would only last so long. It wouldn't help that most craftsmen of any type were attached to the government or a rich patron, who they relied on for supplies. It wasn't a position that allowed much freedom, so with employment prospects looking dismal and basic supplies not coming in from the government, there wouldn't be any way for the village to survive -- at least not in the way it previously had.
Most everyone who had the means to leave Kul Elna did (and probably retreated to the capitol, where things were more stable and, you know, there was food). Those who were left probably turned to stealing from the tombs out of desperation for things to trade for basic necessities. So Kul Elna was slowly dying by the time Akhenaden led the soldiers to attack it. Bakura probably would have heard a lot of cursing of the government and the Pharaoh for turning their backs on the village in the months leading up to the slaughter. And then the Pharaoh's men came and killed everyone and basically his eternal hatred was cemented \:D/ GOOD TIMES.
These memories would be mostly from before things started to go bad for the village.
What he learned:
⇢ He's from a place called Kul Elna :U It's a village he cares about.
⇢ He had a pretty happy childhood! His parents loved him lots.
⇢ Of course, this does raise the question of why he's a lone thief in his starter memory, but...
⇢ Basically ++ to family/village feelings, which will translate to ++ team feelings.
